Scott and I started working with our adoption agency last June. We started the long process of completing the paperwork, medical tests, and home visit in order to complete our home study. Once this was complete along with our couple profile we were considered Active and able to be shown to birthmothers. We were active as of September and waiting to be matched with a birth mom.
Well, I was at work on a Friday in December when that call came. As you can imagine I was so excited and overwhelmed with emotion! We had gotten a call that a birth mom had picked us and that she would be due in the spring, originally thought to be due in March. It was decided that we would meet with her sometime in January or February.
January came and went and we didn't meet, but we were given ultrasound pictures. We learned that our birth mom was having a boy! We finally were able to meet with her in February and I was so impressed with her maturity. I can't imagine how difficult this decision must have been for her but I know that she did it because she wanted the best for her baby. I did feel awful for her as her original due date had been the end of March but after her ultrasound in January they determined that May 10th was a more accurate due date.
After meeting with her in February, I texted back and forth with her for the next couple of months just to check in and see how she was doing, get to know her more, and give any encouragement that I could--she was so ready to be done by the end of March!
We got through March and most of April when we finally got a call from the agency that our birth mom was at the hospital in labor and that we should be close to Indy. We headed up that afternoon and wandered around Circle Centre Mall and had dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. We then hung out at a Starbucks near the hospital and waited.
We got a text from our birth mom around 8pm Tuesday that James had just arrived and that we could come see him anytime. We went as soon as we could get there, after stopping at Donatos for a pizza and Pepsi for our birth mom, her request!
This was one proud papa holding his son the night he was born, I love the smile on his face!
We visited with our birth mom and James for a bit and then headed home that night. We were back at the hospital the next day about noon to sign all of the paperwork. Once that was done, we left for a bit to get some lunch and to do some much needed baby supply shopping! A kid needs a place to sleep right?? While we were shopping we let James visit with his birth mom until she decided she was ready to be discharged from the hospital about 8pm Wednesday night.
The hospital gave us a room to use Wednesday night so we could stay with James and start the bonding process. Scott of course was fascinated with taking pictures of the room and various amenities....such as the bathroom toilet. Who knew bathrooms could be so fascinating!
I spent the night with James while Scott took some baby blankets home to get the dogs used to his smell. James and I enjoyed plenty of snuggle time!
My Mom was able to bring me coffee and breakfast the next morning, so of course she got to meet James and hold him for awhile before she headed to work. Of course Granny was in love!
Here are some other pictures to enjoy!
